Sunlight U
Founded by
Created by rape survivor Brittany Catton Kirk and Las Vegas Massacre survivor Dr. Shiva Ghaed.
History and Mission

In reaction to COVID-19 restrictions to real world gatherings and limitations on Sunlight Retreats, Brittany Catton Kirk founded this non-profit with Dri. Shiva Ghaed a Las Vegas Massacre survivor in an effort to help violence survivors with trauma. Sunlight U is a tool for a trauma survivor who has done work towards healing--including medication, therapy, or other healing modalities--but still feel stuck.

We urge anyone who has had a recent trauma to seek medical treatment. Sunlight U is not considered medical treatment. Please continue any existing treatment offered by your doctor. We know loved ones might be worried, but it is important the trauma survivor is seeking to do this work; it does not work without them.

The building blocks of science of trauma are YES for all trauma survivors, Sunlight U can benefit anyone who has dealt with trauma. We all process trauma through our amygdala, even if we respond differently. Learn the science of trauma from this survivor designed trauma-informed course. Trauma specialist and Clinical Psychologist Dr. Shiva Ghaed will explain to you the science of trauma, to empower you to understand your thoughts, feelings and emotions, and how to move forward with your healing. Our mission is to empower survivors to accelerate their healing and restore their sense of agency and reclaim their lives. Sunlight U addresses and resolves survivors? challenges because it is an online resource that is accessible 24/7. There will be no need to chase down a doctor that is not even accepting new clients. Survivors will recognize and understand that PTSD does not have to be a lifelong diagnosis.

Survivors, equipped with science, provided by trauma expert Dr. Shiva Ghaed, survivors will be able to gain a deeper understanding of their symptoms, perpetuating stressors and triggers, and develop healthier coping tools to empower them to move from reactive to responsive with better outcomes.

Sunlight U will also reinvest 10% of the proceeds of Sunlight U into low-income scholarships for our nonprofit partners to offer to trauma survivors when they need it most.
